Couple weeks ago I went to skiing on the most beautiful Serbian mountain Kopaonik,

putting myself in one simple mission – to check do statements from a cult book The Inner

Game of Tennis (by Timothy Gallwey and Jonathan Cape) also work in skiing skills learning.

“Mastering this game (tennis) is the subject of many books offering instructions: on how to

swing a racket, club or bat, and how to position arms, legs or torso to achieve the best results.

But for some reason most of us find these instructions easier to remember than to execute”.

As per plan, I pass from the group of total beginners, starting with my seven year old daughter in the same group, continuing on second and third level and finalizing with a group of students who can ski on the most difficult, black ski tracks. At all levels I could see that the statement above is true – either children or adults were learnt faster by observing instructors than by trying to apply oral instructions.

“It was about twenty degrees below zero outside, and I had nothing other than the sports jacket I was wearing /…/. After a minute of reflection I found myself saying aloud, `Okay, if now is the time, so be it. I'm ready`. I really meant it. With that I stopped thinking about it and began walking calmly down the road, suddenly aware of the beauty of the night. I became absorbed in the silence of the stars and in the loveliness of the dimly lit forms around me; everything was beautiful. Then without thinking, I started running.”

Similar situation I had on the top of a black ski track. I was almost alone, with poor ski experience and skills. Then, without thinking, I just was ski the best I know and – survived. Even more, I enjoyed.

To explore the limitless potential within human body has been the guest of the Inner Game. From a fresh experience, I can proof that it works for ski lessons as well. Try it.

At the end, my special thank to ski instructors of the oldest ski school on Kopaonik, Relja, Stanko, Nevena and Mina, who guided me from beginner to advanced ski skills level in just one week.

Sincerely,
